FAQ
Common questions about Verdaride
Answers about fees, cancellations, carpooling legality, and how the app works. Can't find what you need? Denise, our in-app AI assistant, can help in real time — or reach a real person through our Contact page.
Is it free to join Verdaride?
Yes. Creating an account, browsing rides, and posting a trip are all free. Riders pay a small reservation fee plus their share of the trip's actual cost when they book; drivers don't pay anything to post a ride.
Can I use Verdaride outside Canada?
Verdaride is built for Canadian commuters — pricing is in CAD, driver payouts run through Stripe, and our terms are governed by Canadian law. Rides are also matched to real commuters along a shared route, so availability depends on other Verdaride users being active in your area. We don't currently support sign-ups or payouts outside Canada.
What's the difference between Verdaride and Uber?
Uber is on-demand commercial dispatch — you request a ride and pay a fare to a driver whose job is driving. Verdaride is cost-sharing carpooling: people already commuting somewhere offer their empty seats, and riders split the actual cost of that trip (fuel and wear, not a profit margin) with them. You're matched with people going your way, often on a recurring schedule, instead of hailing a random car on demand.
Can I offer a one-time ride, or does it have to be a regular commute?
Both. Post a single trip for a one-off ride, or set up a recurring shift — for example, weekday mornings to the office — and Verdaride will keep matching you with the same corridor of commuters automatically.
Can I call Verdaride?
Yes — call our support line at (650) 629-2511. For something quicker, Denise, the AI assistant built into the app, can usually answer instantly. For anything else, email support@verdaride.app and a real person will follow up.
What are your cancellation policies?
Riders: cancel 24+ hours before departure for a full refund, 12–24 hours for a 50% refund, and under 12 hours (or a no-show) isn't refunded. Drivers: cancelling a confirmed ride counts against your account, and a second cancellation within 6 months can trigger a suspension review. Full details are in our Fees & Cancellation Policy.
How do I report a bug?
Tell Denise in the app — describe what happened and she'll log it for the team. You can also email support@verdaride.app with details and, if you can, a screenshot.
Is it legal to carpool on Verdaride?
Yes. Verdaride operates as a cost-sharing platform, not a commercial transportation service — drivers split their actual trip costs with riders rather than charging a fare for profit. That's the distinction that separates cost-sharing carpooling from commercial ride-hailing or taxi service.
Do I need to pay taxes (GST/HST) on Verdaride?
Verdaride doesn't add GST/HST to rider payments, since a cost-sharing contribution isn't a commercial fare. That said, we can't give personalized tax advice — if you're unsure how using Verdaride applies to your own tax situation, check with the CRA or a tax professional.
Do I have to pay taxes on the contributions I receive as a driver?
We don't withhold or remit tax on driver payouts, since you're being reimbursed for a shared cost rather than paid a commercial fare. For how that applies to your own return, a tax professional or the CRA can give you a definitive answer for your situation.
How much are the fees to use Verdaride?
Riders pay a small non-refundable reservation fee ($0.99 CAD) when booking, plus their share of the trip's cost-sharing contribution — rides under 15 km split a shared minimum, and longer rides use dynamic pricing based on distance. Drivers can withdraw earnings for a $1.99 CAD fee; standard bi-weekly withdrawals are free, with instant withdrawal available for a fee. Full numbers are in our Fees & Cancellation Policy.
What do I need to become a driver on Verdaride?
A valid driver's license, current vehicle registration and insurance, and a roadworthy vehicle. Because Verdaride is cost-sharing rather than commercial ride-hailing, you don't need a chauffeur or commercial passenger license to drive — just your regular license and insurance in good standing.
What are your Terms of Service?
Read the full Terms of Service. In short: you must be 18 or older, drivers and riders both agree to follow the in-app rules, and Verdaride runs on cost-sharing pricing with VPoints ride credits for refunds and promotions.
Can I edit a ride after I've posted it?
Yes — open it from My Rides and tap Edit Trip to change the details before it departs.
